Bristol Community College is focused on achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. To accomplish its goal, the areas of key focus include transportation, facilities, operations and policy, education, research and community outreach. With a multifaceted and collaborative approach BCC aims to make consistent emissions reduction progress across the institution.
Bristol Community College will incorporate sustainability within the curriculum on a broader scale. The Institute for Sustainability and Post Carbon Education and Sustainability Committee in collaboration with the student body, will serve as focal points to promote climate neutrality and sustainability throughout the campus and greater community.
Bristol Community College will work to develop the Sustainable Technologies Learning Center to promote and expand research and hands-on technical projects for students, providing them with the skills they will need in the new green economy. In addition, efforts will be made to expand upon programs similar to Sustainability and Green Energy (SAGE) to promote collaborative research and development between other institutions.
The Sustainability Committee and student members at Bristol Community College will promote and manage the following outreach efforts to the community: tours of campus-based renewable energy systems, local schools' participation in sustainability-related curriculum activities and educational seminars provided at locations within the community. BCC will expand its outreach programs regarding its goal of achieving carbon neutrality through credit and non-credit based student volunteer programs to increase participation with local schools and other community-based organizations. The ultimate goal is to raise awareness and to promote the benefits of BCC's efforts to the greater community to inspire a shift in behavior through education.
