The mission of the Core Curriculum Subcommittee is to assure that all students from Anna Maria College students graduate with an understanding of the principles of sustainability and a sense of environmental responsibility. Students and the greater AMC community will be environmentally literate and serve as a model to the community at large for environmental sustainability and be able to contribute to international progress toward sustainability.

The Subcommittee identified two main objectives for the College in this area: Education and Outreach:
• The educational programs of the College will foster students’ awareness of the importance environmental engagement. Students will have an understanding of how human activities, when conducted sustainably, can help to conserve global resources, protect ecological systems, and preserve the planet’s ability to support all life.

• The educational and co-curricular life of the College will inform and empower the AMC community to engage in effective action to promote sustainability on campus, in the broader community, and on the national and international level.

Please describe your institution's plans to expand community outreach efforts toward the achievement of climate neutrality.

In keeping with the mission of the College’s foundresses, the Sisters of Saint Anne, Anna Maria College has infused its campus climate initiative with opportunities to bring awareness of the importance of obtaining carbon neutrality beyond its campus community. As an institution of higher learning, AMC takes its responsibility seriously in regard to creating educational opportunities that teach others how to serve the Common Good. With the goal of reaching out beyond the Anna Maria College Community, the Community Relations and Outreach Subcommittee of PACES established two main objectives for the College:

• Develop and implement projects that the Anna Maria Campus Community can initiate on behalf of the community at-large. The suggested activities would provide a benefit to the region and assist the communities served by the college in becoming more environmentally sustainable.

• Join forces with community organizations on events, projects and initiatives that make a positive impact on the environmental sustainability on the communities that the College serves.

To this end, the Community Relations Sub-Committee of PACES recommends that Anna Maria College both initiate and participate in community projects that support environmental sustainability.
