Please describe your institution's greenhouse gas mitigation strategies.
Babson is in the midst of a cultural shift that is bringing sustainability forward as a centerpiece of the College’s identity. The College recently completed a strategic planning process. In May 2009, Babson President Leonard A. Schlesinger released the outcome of that collaborative process, a new strategy and new vision for the College. This vision, elaborated on in the section of this document called “Vision,” organizes Babson around three goals. It also integrates sustainability (social, economic, and environmental) into the very fabric of Babson’s future. To that end, this document is designed to, at the highest level:
• Outline Babson’s past, current, and future sustainability programs
• Create a tangible road map to Babson’s stated greenhouse gas and sustainability goals, as committed to by the president of the College upon signing the
Presidents’ Climate Commitment, with attainable way markers and progress goals
• Serve as a useful, living document that can be used to chart Babson’s progress going forward, via periodic updates
• Organize the implementation of sustainability at
Babson, and keep it in line with Babson’s goals, strategic plan, and vision. Unify Babson’s diverse sustainability-related initiatives into one coherent vision to create more streamlined implementation, and serve as a communication tool.
These steps to carbon neutrality will entail:
2010-2015
• Energy efficiency investments
• Invest in solar power generation
2016−2020
• Procurement of electricity from
renewable sources
2021−2030
• Enhanced energy efficiency investment
• Improved vehicle fuel efficiency
2031−2050
• Purchase quality offsets
2011−2050
• Ongoing focus on shift toward a culture
of sustainability
• Green planning and green building policies
