Across a variety of areas of the university, projects and systems are being put in place, or planned for in order to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. The institution will implement these actions, focusing on those which can be implemented with least cost and effort first, followed by those which focus on our areas of greatest emissions. All areas will be tracked by focused sub-committees which will be overseen by the Council on Green Efforts. The plan, which has been reviewed by the president, will be dispersed to the appropriate offices, as well as the Communications Sub-Committee, which will handle the internal publicity, and assist in handling external publicity. Offices will take their section of the action plan recommendations and work with the corresponding sub-committee if they are not already involved to devise detailed logistical steps in implementing each action and estimating its emissions reductions possibilities. A final timeline and detailed logistics plan will be developed and attached to the current Climate Action Plan. A system is being developed to track the progress of our actions and the resultant emissions reductions. An annual report, outside of the ACUPCC reporting system and compiled by the Council on Green Efforts, will be provided from here on out to the university president.
Several programs are being looked at to give professors the opportunity to be trained in bringing sustainability concepts into the curriculum. A potential renewable energy minor is being developed for the engineering school, however a cross-curriculum plan is still in the works. A record of classes and professional research related to sustainability ideas has been compiled by the Curriculum and Research Sub-Committee of the Council on Green Efforts and placed in the Climate Action Plan.
The Communications Sub-Committee of the Council on Green Efforts will be handling community outreach internal to the university community. This includes publications of the Climate Action Plan and progress reports as well as what it means to be a signatory of the ACUPCC.
