GHG Report for Bristol Community College
Submitted on March 20, 2009; last updated on March 20, 2009
Summary Statistics
Making fair comparisons between higher education institutions is always challenging due to the rich diversity of higher education. The unverified nature of the information in this database and unavailability of unbiased normalization metrics means such comparisons are even more difficult. Users should therefore approach direct institution to institution comparisons with caution and recognize that all comparisons between institutions are inherently biased.| Total | Per Full-Time Enrollment | Per 1000 Square Feet | % Offset | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gross emissions (Scopes 1 + 2) | 3,939 metric tons of CO2e | 1.0 metric tons of CO2e | 10.8 metric tons of CO2e | 0% |
| Gross emissions (Scopes 1 + 2 + 3) | 14,372 metric tons of CO2e | 3.6 metric tons of CO2e | 39.5 metric tons of CO2e | 0% |
| Net emissions | 14,372 metric tons of CO2e | 3.6 metric tons of CO2e | 39.5 metric tons of CO2e | N/A |
Emissions Inventory Methodology and Boundaries
| Start date of the 12-month period covered in this report | January 1, 2006 |
| Consolidation methodology used to determine organizational boundaries | Operational control approach |
|
If any institution-owned, leased, or operated buildings or other holdings that should fall within the organizational boundaries are omitted, briefly explain why.
The College leases 10,000 square feet of space in a large building in a neighboring City. Gas consumption for heating and cooling can not be accurately recorded as there is a single meter for all the tenants. |
|
| Emissions calculation tool used | Other |
|
Please describe why this tool was selected.
BCC will be required to use the calculation methodologies published in The Climate Registry General Reporting Protocol to comply with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection mandatory greenhouse gas reporting regulations. |
|
|
Please describe the source(s) of the emissions coefficients used.
All emission factors, with one exception, are from The Climate Registry General Reporting Protocol published in May 2008. The Solid Waste Module emission factor is from EPA's 2002 report, Solid Waste Management and Greenhouse Gasses: A Life-Cycle Assessment of Emissions and Sinks. |
|
| Which version of IPCC's list of global warming potentials did you use? | Second Assessment Report |
| Who primarily conducted this emissions inventory? | External consultant |
|
Please describe the process of conducting the inventory.
Consultant prepared a list of potential direct and indirect emission producing categories. The sustainability coordinator distributed the list to various departments having records on the requested data. The sustainability coordinator forwarded the information to the consultant for calculations and preparation of the GHG Inventory report. |
|
|
Please describe any emissions sources that were classified as de minimis and explain how a determination of the significance of these emissions was made.
No information provided |
|
|
Please describe any data limitations related to this submission and any major assumptions made in response to these limitations.
The use of freon for refrigeration and air conditioning was not included in the the inventory analysis as this substance is being phased out by the Montreal Protocol. indirect emissions associated with employee related air travel has been excluded from the inventory effort due to lack of data. |
