| Description | In 2010, Clark Atlanta University began instituting initiatives to incorporate concepts of sustainable technology and development into the fabric of the university. As an institution of high research activity, Clark Atlanta University supports innovation through research, and implements sustainable practices throughout the campus. The Clark Atlanta University Sustainability Council was established in 2010 to develop and implement a culture of environmental stewardship for the entire university community which is effectively integrated into the Clark Atlanta University brand. |

In an effort to encourage the use of alternative transportation as a means to travel to and from the campus, as well as between AUC college campuses during the academic year, CAU participates in the Woodruff Library Atlanta University Center (AUC) Shuttle Service. The campus shuttle system is operated free-of-charge to riders and provides access to key parts of the campuses, city mass transit and the surrounding community. The service is available to faculty, staff, students, and visitors to the campus.

CAU has been a participant of the national RecycleMania competition since 2010. For our January 2012 entry, we will expand our campus-wide recycling program. Initiatives include, 1) the collection of waste vegetable oil for the Bio-Diesel Plant, 2) The CAU Recycling Club will distribute recycling bags to all dorm rooms and pick up recyclables bi-monthly, 3) Institute “Pre-RecycleMania” to educate the students living in the residence halls on recycling prior to the national competition, and 4) Create a recycling competition between all the dorms and will give the dorm that recycles the most a prize.
