Progress Report for University of Maine at Machias

Submitted on Jan. 17, 2012; Last updated on Jan. 19, 2012

The Progress Report is intended to help signatories assess and track progress toward the goals outlined
in their Climate Action Plans and to share that progress with their stakeholders and the general public.

General Statement of Progress

As an Environmental Liberal Arts institution, University of Maine at Machias provides a curriculum that applies traditional liberal arts to issues of environmental and community sustainability. Students are provided with a sense of place in the community and nature and apply their individual disciplines to sustainability issues.

To date UMM has seen a gradual reduction in GHG emissions. These can likely be attributed to operational and behavioral changes as a result of increased awareness of sustainability issues and goals. Several building retrofits and upgrades are in progress or have recently been completed that we expect to make an impact on future GHG inventories.
